A charming village, Le Vieil-Baugé will surprise you in particular with its astonishing church. Its twisted and leaning bell tower
is the origin of many legends! Built from the 11th century, the current building is a perfect
witness to the evolution of religious architecture.
In Pontigné, the Saint-Denis church reopened its doors last June. Remarkable for its twisted bell tower and
its Angevin architecture called « Plantagenet« , the church has retained a deep unity. Admire the richness of the
sculptures, the polychromy of the capitals and the quality of the wall paintings from the 13th-15th centuries,
some of which have been recently updated. These churches are among the twisted bell towers in Europe and are
part of the network of welcoming churches in Anjou.
Also discover the covered stone dolmen of Pontigné, listed since 1910. It is considered
one of the most beautiful specimens in the region. On the Baugé-Pontigné axis (D141).
To get some fresh air, you will enjoy the Chandelais du Guédeniau national forest, the magnificent 18-hole golf course of the Golf de Baugé in Anjou, the twisted bell tower of Fougeré, the museum of liturgical clothing in Cheviré le Rouge, the many hiking trails in the towns of Saint Martin d’Arcé, Échemiré, Cuon, Bocé, La vallée des Cartes and Couasnon, … and finally its 23km greenway on the former route of the railway line from Chartrené to La Flèche, which has been completely rehabilitated, perfect for hiking or cycling…
